NYC014 - print (MES453)

AJ was born in the small fishing village of South Kingston, Rhode Island. He split his formative years between Fort McMurray, Alberta and London, Ontario. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario, completing two degrees: History and Film Studies. AJ then moved to Vancouver to work in his chosen trade of film. It was on those very streets of Vancouver, somewhere between East Hastings and Kitsilano that AJ began his journey into photography. With his father's Yashica 35mm in hand, his imaginative eye and cameras have now explored four continents and a galaxy of images encompassing a wide range of cultural moments and forms of natural beauty. Not surprisingly, AJ?s understanding of photography is an evolving, hands-on, self-taught learning process. A major breakthrough occurred during his year in Australia when he discovered the work of Peter Lik, an incredible landscape photographer out of Cairns, Queensland. Lik?s use of the Australian contours and rich vibrant colours were magical and unprecedented in AJ?s eyes, and so began his ?artful colour? journey in a black & white dominated photography world. At that moment he vowed to merge his love of photography with career. He began small, selling photographs as souvenirs at a local Internet cafe at Surfers Paradise. During his last few months in Australia he sold over 2000 photographs and gained confidence he could do this for a living. He vowed to discover the beauty in every place he visited and to capture it with photography. In recent years he?s been fortunate to work closely with a good friend and mentor, the accomplished National Hockey League (NHL) sports photographer, Dave Sandford. AJ also had the honour to work alongside some of the top NHL photographers from Getty and NHL Images. He feels truly blessed to have been behind the scenes for so many significant sporting events, and to be among the professionals who bring the world of images to newspapers, magazines, television and the Worldwide Web each day. His current and past client list includes; NHL Images, The Hockey Hall of Fame, Getty Images, Save the Children Canada, Barrie Golf & Country Club, and St. George's Golf & Country Club in toronto.
